Entering the 3rd Space || Thursday, January 29, 2009 10:44 PM

Was very privileged to be invited to my CEO's home for CNY, was very interesting as all the guests were ladies!!! haa. after dinner, our VP of Sales called and discovered that he wasnt invited so he immediately drove over in his red Farrari, was quite funny, but he and our CEO are good friends for many years la. CEO and his wife kept telling him he wasnt invited because of his gender

The Ladies who attended include my marketing team, VP of Marketing, HR and Sales (dropped by later) and we had very nice peranakan/chinese food.

Quite nice to be invited into the more family/personal space of the CEO which you dont get to see in a normal context. The home is very nice and spacious, huge rooms that are the size of a conference room and immaculatly decorated with lots of glass and wood - 3 stories and a nice skylight roof top lawn.

Once in the office, I asked my CEO what books he read so as to feature in our internal magazine but he kept evading the question only to finally show me something like 5 book shelves of books from persian carpets, to chinese literature to business books to classics!!!

He and his wife were happily telling us about their sons based on the books they read, quite smart guys from what they say (one speaks 6languages and is at Brown Uni and the other was from Harvard) only thing is they only come back once a year during Christmas.

Sherie kept trying to intro me and ericia (who is 28 this year) to them cos they are about the same age, showing us photos of my CEO's sons..haaa.

Funny thing was CEO was very surprised I was same age as his youngest son, I suppose in the work context, they expect you to be older in age. I do hope im perceived to be older and more mature, cos my sis in law and bro always say I act in a 'im a little girl' way around them.

Looking at my CEO's wife the couple seems to be quite proud that they have been together for 30years without divorce, doesnt seem to be the usual money spending tai tai kind, but portrays herself to be frugal in nature, is very proud that husband buys her tiffany and co diamond ring, and is very proud of the accomplishments of her sons!

Things I learnt
1. Abbreviations used in business context - TCSS means talking cock sing song
2. Its not wat you know, its who you know. Very interesting how CEO keeps also trying to help people get hitched, he says that he still have contacts/influence over people 20year his junior, so he can help my director to get a good bf, haaa. I told him we can add them to her database, wahaha.
3. CEO's good friend is the husband of Gongli, so she comes over to their place regularly. Movie Star in the house
4. Our group (parent company) CEO is a very serious golfer, meaning he is very serious as a person all the time. VP of sales says he wanna joke around but he cant. I think with this very smart intellectual people, they tend to exude that kind of seriousness and focused demeanor. Probably thats how he rose up to where he is. Networks with the likes of Ho Ching from Temasek and Mukesh Ambani from Reliance Group (Top 5 richest man in the world)
