What is Marketing? The Role of marketing?
Normally, people think that we just do advertising, admin support (get the coffee and wine for the customer) and attend glamorous events (you got to think! What events will yr customers attend?), but it’s about HARD WORK (Sharon Tan) and from Lauri’s mouth, Marketing is strategy, the driver of the business. Who else should know better what is happening in the market?

It’s about understanding the market – from a macro and micro lavel

It’s about understanding the client – a lot of listeningInspiring – to get the customers excited about our products and services

Marketing is about retaining profitable customers, getting maximized return, it’s about resource allocation, the return on every dollar (ROI)

Looking at different industries, marketing can either be its strongest point or the weakest link. To be a good marketer, you got to have the right understanding of the product, if the product is so great, you wont need marketing, so there! marketing has an ‘edge’! – Sherie Ng.

Marketing is an evolving role – it depends on your environment, we fill in the gaps! Where the organization is going and what is lacking in the communication? Marketing fuels the relationships with customers and employees and then telling the sales what to do. Interesting ah? We give sales the right information to help them have critical conversations with the CEOs and decision makers in the customers.

Analogy - Marketing identifies the land, and then sales does the watering and allowing the fruits to grow.
